Clean Economy
The Port of Belledune and our terminal partner, QSL, are unified in our push for the energy transition. Through a new 25-year lease agreement, we are transforming the Port into a specialized hub for green energy and low-carbon industries.
The Green Energy Hub
Established five years ago, our Green Energy Hub serves as a dedicated district for projects that balance environmental responsibility with economic opportunity.
-
Clean Power for Industry: We leverage access to clean electricity to power large-scale industries and process critical minerals into value-added products.
-
Green Fuel Production: We are collaborating with international developers on projects to produce green hydrogen, green ammonia, and green methanol.
-
Strategic Roadmaps: The Port actively participates in the New Brunswick Hydrogen Roadmap and the Hydrogen Strategy for Canada.
-
Coal-to-Biomass Transition: We are positioned to help the Belledune Generating Station convert from coal to biomass, utilizing our experience as Eastern Canada's largest exporter of wood pellets and chips.
Global Trade Corridors
We are establishing the Port of Belledune as Canada’s port of choice for green energy exports, particularly to the European market.
-
Port-to-Port Agreements: We have signed MoUs with major European ports, including Hamburg, Rotterdam, and Antwerp, to create a green energy trade corridor.
-
Supply Chain Expansion: These partnerships allow us to trade sustainable products with key industrial players in regions seeking clean fuels.
-
Government Support: Our vision is fully supported by the Canadian government, which recognizes the importance of these relationships in developing new markets.
A Foundation of Partnership
Our shift toward a clean economy is built on a foundation of long-term collaboration and shared values.
-
QSL Collaboration: With nearly 30 years of partnership, QSL provides the logistical expertise and infrastructure investment necessary to support our growing green energy activities.
-
First Nations Leadership: Both the Port and QSL engage First Nations communities from the very beginning of development to ensure Indigenous perspectives guide each project.
-
Regional Competitiveness: By aligning our vision with our partners, we are attracting new industries and creating a more competitive region for the global energy transition.
