9 SHIPS in 7 DAYS!

Belledune NB – A record number of vessels called on the Port of Belledune between September 11, 2010 and September 18, 2010!

A total of nine (9) vessels visited the Port of Belledune setting a record as the busiest week ever for shipping at the Port of Belledune. “Port operations are as swift as ever at the Port of Belledune,” says Captain Wynford Goodman, BPA Director of Operations. “This week was an excellent testament to the capabilities of the Port of Belledune; the coordination and timing in vessel movement and navigation to/from the Port’s various berths, the subsequent cargo handling, management, and shipping by the Terminal operators all was exceptional.”

The vessels arrived from various ports around the world and within Canada carrying an assortment of goods. Vessels that arrived with import cargo at the Port were as follows:

The M.V. ‘Beluga Festival’ arrived from Ferrol, Spain with wind turbine components; the M.V. ‘Sunrise Misen’ arrived from Cartagena, Columbia with metallurgical coke; the M.V. ‘CSL Laurentien’ arrived in Belledune from Superior, Wisconsin with coal; the M.V. ‘Birchglen’ arrived from Superior, Wisconsin with coal; the M.V. ‘CSL Niagara’ arrived from Superior, Wisconsin with coal; and the M.V. ‘Beluga Navigation’ arrived from Ferrol, Spain with wind turbine components.

Exports are also very vibrant at the Port of Belledune; vessels carrying cargoes from the Port were as follows:

The barge ‘PML Ironmaster’ / tug ‘Reliance’ loaded armour stone in Belledune; the M.V. ‘Canadian Navigator’ arrived from Quebec, QC and loaded out synthetic gypsum in Belledune; and the barge ‘Lambert Spirit’/ tug ‘Salvor’ loaded zinc concentrate in Belledune.

“Shipping at the Port of Belledune has increased steadily over the past several years,” says Jenna Doucet, BPA Director of Marketing. “This can be directly attributed to hard work from the staff at the Belledune Port Authority and the joint marketing efforts with our partners at Eastern Canada Stevedoring.”
