Belledune, New Brunswick, January 8, 2026 – The Belledune Port Authority (BPA) welcomed Captain Glen Burton, Master of the Western Tugger/ Arctic Lift 1, and its 7-person crew as the First Ship of 2026. The Western Tugger / Arctic Lift 1 loaded aggregate delivered from Roy’s Trucking to the Magdalen Islands in Quebec. Stevedoring services were provided by our longtime partner Quebec Stevedoring Limited (QSL).

Aggregate plays an essential role in strengthening coastal protection, supporting shoreline stabilization, road construction, and other infrastructure necessary to adapt to increasingly severe weather events. Through shipments such as this, the Port of Belledune is an essential part of the national transportation network, helping Canada build resiliency.
Sailing under the Canadian flag, the Western Tugger/ Arctic Lift 1 is a Tug and Barge operated by Miller Shipping Ltd. The traditional “First Ship of the Year” ceremony was held in person, with the presence of QSL and Roy’s Trucking, during which a commemorative award was presented to the captain and crew in recognition of their contribution to marine trade and safe operations.

“We are pleased to welcome the first ship of 2026 and recognize the Western Tugger / Arctic Lift 1 and its crew for their role in delivering materials that directly support the
resilience of our coastal communities,” said Denis Caron, President and CEO of the Belledune Port Authority. “This work highlights the importance of our region’s support of federal priorities– providing New Brunswick’s natural resources to the nation.”
Mr. Caron also acknowledged the Port’s long-standing partners. “We extend our sincere thanks to our partners QSL and Roy’s Trucking for their decades-long relationship at the Port of Belledune. Their continued collaboration and investment are essential to the Port’s success and to our ability to serve the region efficiently and safely.”

As we move forward in 2026, the Port of Belledune remains committed to supporting regional supply chains, strengthening infrastructure, and working alongside trusted partners to build a more resilient and sustainable future for Northern New Brunswick and the nation.
