Rayburn Doucett, President & of the Belledune Port Authority (BPA) announced that the BPA has applied to join the Southern New Brunswick Gateway Council.
“Our application to join the Southern New Brunswick Gateway Council signifies the importance for all of New Brunswick and all of Atlantic Canada to work together under the Atlantic Gateway initiative set by the Federal Government following the MOU signed by the four Atlantic Provinces in October 2007.
We anticipate the Belledune Port Authority will work in cooperation with the Southern New Brunswick Gateway Council to advance the role of New Brunswick in developing the Atlantic Gateway and support the creation of an ‘Atlantic Canadian Gateway Council’ with members from each of the four provinces.
Atlantic Gateway and Building Canada funds are both excellent Federal Government initiatives to promote the international movement of cargo through Atlantic Canada by all modes of transportation. We are confident that the Port of Belledune will play an integral role connecting New Brunswick and Atlantic Canada to the rest of North America by sea, rail and road.”
The BPA continues to develop as an anchor of the economy in northern New Brunswick. The Port offers year round cargo handling capacity. Offering over 200 acres of land and direct access to rail and roads from the terminals the Port of Belledune play’s a significant role in the Atlantic Gateway as a deep sea connection to North America’s vast interior market.
