Port of Belledune Celebrates its 50th Anniversary

Belledune NB -The Port of Belledune officially opened its 50 year anniversary celebration with a Logo Unveiling event yesterday!

The Port hosted a winter themed event to kick off the celebration year. The event, open to the public, included sleigh rides provided by O’Neil Sleigh Rides, free food and hot chocolate prepared by local snowmobile club, Super Village Trail Blazers, music and more!

“The Port, originally one terminal built in 1968 to serve the needs of the smelter, has grown immensely over the past fifty years. Originally handling a handful of products, the Port has grown its product mix to 24 commodities,” said Mr. Denis D. Caron, President & CEO of the Port. “The Port grows both with the clients’ needs and to attract new potential projects to the region. We are currently working on various infrastructure projects to keep up with the demand at the Port and to maintain our reputation a state-of-the-art ice-free port.”

Mr. Caron also took the opportunity to congratulate one of the Port employees, Captain Wynford Goodman. “Capt. Goodman has been working at the Port of Belledune for twenty years; he was the first employee of the Belledune Port Authority. His contributions as Director of Operations and Harbour Master at the Port have been outstanding.”

The Port has various events planned for the year which include celebrating each of its four terminals and tenants. “The success of the Port over the past fifty years is only possible because of its clients, partners, and the local communities. We intend to celebrate each of these important partnerships.” We invite everyone to watch for more events commemorating this achievement, and to follow along on our various social media platforms! @portofbelledune #PORT50
