Belledune NB –The Belledune Port Authority (BPA) is truly on the move, seeing ten (10) vessels and over 270,000mt of cargo being handled in the month of May at the Port of Belledune. This amount of cargo is equal in weight to approximately 948,000,000 boxes of chocolates or 37,000,000 professional sized bowling balls!
Among the ten (10) vessels calling on the Port in the month of May are the two (2) currently in harbour: the MV Stellar Sunrise, registered in Panama, which has been loading over 40,000mt of woodchips at Terminal 3, operated by Eastern Canada Stevedoring, since Saturday; and the MV SSI Dignity, registered in the Marshall Islands, currently unloading over 60,000mt of pet-coke at Terminal 2 for NB Power.
President & CEO of the BPA, Rayburn Doucett, stated, “Aside from the amount of cargo being moved with these two (2) vessels, the fact that both ships are over 40,000mt gross tonnage makes these ships such an impressive sight to see. Having a deep water port with our water depth going to depths below 14 meters (47 feet), we have the ability to see vessels of this size and larger call on the Port of Belledune on a regular basis. We can only hope to see more months with activity such as this one in our future.”
