Port of Belledune Heads to Canada Investment Summit to Advance Major Growth Opportunities
BELLEDUNE, N.B. – September 13, 2026 – The Port of Belledune will join Premier Susan Holt and Team New Brunswick in Toronto September 14-15 for the inaugural Canada Investment Summit, where the province will showcase more than $30 billion in major investment opportunities.
The Port’s planned expansion is among the major New Brunswick projects being presented to investors, alongside opportunities in critical minerals, energy, advanced materials, digital infrastructure and transportation.
The Port is advancing an approximately $1.7 billion, two-phase Transshipment Facility Hub to expand Belledune’s role as an Atlantic trade gateway. The $347 million first phase would increase throughput capacity by approximately 148 per cent and add new import, export and transshipment capability for larger vessels. A longer-term deepwater phase would accommodate fully laden Capesize vessels and support growing critical-mineral and bulk commodity trade.
“This is about turning opportunity into investment and investment into projects,” said Denis Caron, President and CEO of the Belledune Port Authority. “New Brunswick has tremendous assets, and the Port of Belledune provides a strategic gateway connecting those assets to Canadian and international markets.”
Caron said the Summit also provides an opportunity to demonstrate how the Port can support investment well beyond its boundaries.
“Our vision is larger than building another terminal. We are building the infrastructure and partnerships needed to support the next generation of economic development in northern New Brunswick and across Atlantic Canada. Critical minerals, energy, advanced manufacturing, defence and security, and international trade all require strong transportation and logistics infrastructure. Belledune is well positioned to play that role.”
Located on Chaleur Bay in northern New Brunswick, the Port offers year-round marine access, rail and highway connectivity, significant industrial lands and direct access to international markets. Its proximity to Europe and relationships with major European ports position Belledune as an important Atlantic gateway for Canada’s growing trade and supply-chain ambitions.
The Port is working with the Province of New Brunswick, the federal government, industry, communities and First Nations partners to advance projects that can generate long-term economic benefits for the region.
“The strength of Team New Brunswick is that we can go to investors together with real projects, real infrastructure and a willingness to get things done,” said Caron. “Our message in Toronto is simple: there is significant opportunity in New Brunswick, and the Port of Belledune is ready to help connect that opportunity to the world.”
The Canada Investment Summit takes place September 14-15 in Toronto and brings together Canadian governments, major project proponents and investors to advance investment opportunities across the country.
